The Munster U/13 – U/19 indoor championships is on Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st March 2015.

LIMERICK ATHLETIC CLUB members hit the streets of Adare, Co Limerick for the annual West Limerick AC hosted event the Adare 10k, Sunday February 22.
Seven LAC athletes joined over 600 runners and walkers who braved the wild weather and headed for the picturesque town to take on both the tricky 10k stretch and the elements.
Hannah Fothergill for LAC in the female category took silver for the event with her time of 38mins 55secs just behind West Limerick AC’s Carolyn Maria Hayes who secured gold by getting home in 37mins 46secs.
Limerick Athletic Club took the trophy for the Senior Men’s Team event based on the points awarded as the first four members crossed the finish line.
LAC’s Colm Turner was first home for LAC males and his time of 34mins 23secs captured for him a top five finish, behind Bantry AC’s Alan O’Shea’s course record of 31mins 16secs.
Limerick AC’s Martin Doody was home six seconds after Colm in 34mins 29secs granting him the sixth spot.
Mike Lynch was next home for LAC with his time of 36mins 55secs which secured him a top twenty finish while Keith Ryan followed up in 37mins 15secs, and the final Male LAC athlete to cross the line was Neville Shine’s 40mins 35secs.
From the times posted by LAC members it appears that Limerick Athletic Club have won the team event, which was awarded to Dooneen AC, yet the organisers – West Limerick AC – have since posted a comment to their Facebook page at 9pm on Monday February 23 stating: “There may be a mistake in the team event. will be clarified soon.”
UPDATE: Tuesday February 24.
West Limerick AC have issued the following statement: “Unfortunately due to an error out of our control there was a mix up with the men’s team result. 1st men’s team home was Limerick AC, 2nd was West Limerick AC and 3rd was Dooneen AC. Apologies for the confusion. Congrats and well done to all teams.”

LIMERICK ATHLETIC CLUB had four representatives at this year’s Senior National Indoor Championships held at Athlone International Arena over the weekend of February 21 and 22, 2015.
Ireland’s Senior Shot Put champion Alana Frattaroli was joined by Roland Pika, Glodi Swana and Munster Star Award 2015 recipient Stanley Ikeh to make up the LAC team.
Over the course of two days the LAC athletes smashed through personal best barriers and LAC’s Alana Frattaroli took home the gold medal and was crowned National Champion with an astonishing 12.72m shot that catapulted the 23-year-old into the record books. Following the medal ceremony Alana tweeted: “Actually still can’t believe I’ve won my first seniors title and to top it off also got a PB 12.72!”
Her coach and proud father Dave Frattaroli said: “She is absolutely delighted and even if she came last in the event throwing a personal best would have been enough whereas now she has the bonus of a new PB and a national title. We’re absolutely thrilled.”
Munster Star Award 2015 recipient Stanly Ikeh had a memorable two days at the event as his time of 7.37secs over 60m initially appeared to have him not qualify for the semi-finals – it was reported that he was 16 hundredths of a second outside of qualifying – yet later it emerged that the 15-year-old had secured a semi-final run.
Stanley performed excellently in his semi-final heat and was pipped at the post by the eventual 2015 national champion Keith Pike from Clonliffe Harriers AC, also running was Jamaica’s Winston Barnes.
The LAC juvenile tweeted before the event: “First year running senior’s all I can hope is for good times and new PB’s but with God’s grace it may happen.” And happen it did as Stanley jumped 11.56m in the Triple Jump – his new PB – and the tenth best in the country this year.
It happened again for the 200m sprints where Stanley smashed through his previous best and posted a time of 23.81seconds over a lap of the AIT track.
Stanley commented that he had an incredible day running at the national seniors posting two new personal best and he would like to thank all at LAC for supporting him since he joined the club as a young boy. He is also looking forward to competing at the Munster’s and is confident of more accolades.
LAC’s Glodi Swana entered two sprinting events, the 60m and 200m. Glodi blasted out of the blocks in lane 7 of his heat in the 60m and posted an impressive time of 7.88seconds. Not his personal best but a time that was far faster than he expected to achieve on the day. In the 200m, young Swana was in the fifth heat of seven and posted an exceptional time of 24.87seconds.
Roland Pika represented LAC at the 60m and in the long jump. The young medical worker ran in lane 6 and posted 7.5seconds across the sprint distance. In the long jump Roland leaped into the championship’s top ten, finishing ninth overall with a 6.03metre jump.
The LAC community are extremely proud of all the achievements of its four representatives at the championships. Well done guys.
Other Limerick athletes at the event were Dooneen AC’s Niall Counihan who took the National title in the triple jump and 15-year-old Ciara Neville from Emerald AC who won silver in both the 60m and 60m Hurdles and setting a new national youth record while at it.
