LIMERICK Athletic Club’s Stanley Ikeh has been selected for a Munster Star Award 2014.
The 15-year-old will be one of the guests of honour at this prestigious award ceremony and banquet to be held on January 31, 2015 at the Blarney Golf Resort Hotel.

Munster Star Awards are given only to the most consistent performers throughout the year and are in honour of the athlete’s participation, dedication and overall performance at selected events.
In March 2014, at the All-Ireland Juvenile Indoor Championships held at the Athlone International Arena, Stanley smashed through his previous High Jump record and cleared 1.6m – his new Personal Best – and just one notch below a medal finish. On the same day Stanley was ranked in the country’s top eight sprinters at U16 over 200m when he achieved a Personal Best of 24.93 seconds and that time was just over one second behind the Gold medal position. More recently, in November, Stanley secured his position as the fastest U16 sprinter over 60m in Limerick city and county in a time of 7.14 seconds.

His coaches at LAC were ecstatic to have been informed by the Munster Council of his selection for the award and in a club statement said: “Stanley is a phenomenal athlete and a natural performer. He keeps a cool head at competitions and while others may feel the nerves on the day, Stanley has no problem breaking his own records. We are extremely proud to train with him and we are confident that this will not be the last time that the LAC community will applaud this young man. Stanley’s performances during the year have been nothing short of impressive and while we at LAC knew how good he was, the club is in jubilant form now that his talent and skill has been being recognised for this prestigious award at Munster level.”

The juvenile athlete has built an impressive trophy cabinet through his time with LAC including an All-Ireland Bronze medal over 80m, a Munster Silver medal over 200m, three trophies from one day competing at Cork IT and a host of medals and trophies from local and regional events.
Congratulations to Stanley from the entire LAC community of athletes, coaches, club officers and supporters on this fantastic achievement.
