It was a fine day with a challenging course in Cork today. Up first was Aoife Ryan who had a good run finishing well up the field in the Girls U11. Well done Aoife.

Also well done to the boys U11 we had eight-year-old Matthew Carroll and Fionn Mulrooney who both had really good runs and competed really well.

In U13 girls Limerick AC was able to field a team. Well done to Roisin O’Connor who was the first home for the girls followed strongly by Rebecca Kiely, Ellen Mulrooney, Clodagh Prendeville and Makayla Ryan-Wade.

A big congratulations to the U13 girls who are a great team and always turn up to support each other.

In the U13 boys we have good runs by Rory Prendeville and Adam Stapleton, well done to both of the lads.

Thanks to the Coaches Gwynne, PJ and Jane for carting the Athletes to the event. We are waiting on results from the seniors to be posted later.  Also, a special thanks to Pat Kiely for sorting out the numbers today – Thanks Pat.

Child Welfare Information Evening, Wednesday, December 10, 2014. 8pm at The Pery Suite, Castletroy Park Hotel.

ATHLETICS IRELAND National Child Welfare Manager, Kieron Stout,  will address Limerick Athletic Club’s coaches and parents at this year’s Child Welfare Information Evening to take place at The Pery Suite, Castletroy Park Hotel on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 8pm and hosted by LAC’s lead child welfare officer Patricia Scanlon.

All parents and guardians of LAC juvenile athletes including Little Active Cheetahs are encouraged to attend this event.

The involvement of young people in athletics – and sport in general – forms a major component to their physical and emotional development. The majority of LAC membership is under the age of eighteen. It must be ensured that as a club we provide positive and enjoyable experiences to all members regardless of any members ability, gender, ethnicity or social class.

On a weekly basis Limerick Athletic Club volunteer coaches deliver positive experiences in their dealings with juvenile athletes and their work is instrumental in implementing LAC’s child welfare and safeguarding guideline – the Athletics Ireland Code of Ethics.

Limerick Athletic Club’s safeguarding and welfare policies are in line with “Children’s First” – the national guidelines – and the Irish Sports Council’s. The Athletics Ireland Code of Ethics, published in 2011, ensures that our sport adapts and maintains up-to-date best practice in terms of child protection while adhering to relevant legislation.

Limerick Athletic Club will strive to build on the superlative endeavour of its coaches in an effort to ensure that all juvenile athletes will see their involvement with LAC as a valuable and rewarding experience from childhood to adulthood and continuing to old-age.

Attendance at this event is obligatory for all LAC coaches. Please contact Patricia Scanlon directly or relay a message through Club HQ should you not be able to attend.

LAC’s Rachel best in Limerick and in Munster’s top ten following Nationals

in Cross Country Meeting, Cross Country Results, Results by admin

Rachel Hosey

LIMERICK Athletic Club’s Rachel Hosey is Limerick’s number one U14 Girl in cross country running for 2014.

She also secured the position as one of Munster’s top ten juvenile cross country athletes following her fantastic performance at the Glo Health Even Age Inter County Cross Country Championships held at Dundalk IT on Sunday November 23, 2014.

Rachel ran an impressive race across the course, she was challenged throughout, yet remaining calm and collected she held her position to finish in the first third of athletes from across the island of Ireland.

Of the almost 150 juvenile athletes who qualified for this national event by their placing positions at county and provincial level, Rachel’s consistent performance ensured that she is the top cross country athlete of her age to emerge from Limerick and her achievements have placed her among Munster’s top ten.  This included a silver medal at the Munster Juvenile 3000m on October 26 which earned LAC an elusive podium finish for the category.

Limerick Athletic Club wish to congratulate Rachel on her successful cross country season and the entire community of LAC athletes and coaches are immensely proud of the deserving accolades awarded to her during 2014.
